AJR statement on comments by Bernie Ecclestone
As the national organisation representing and supporting Jewish Holocaust refugees and survivors in Great Britain, the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR) deplores the comments made by Bernie Ecclestone in his interview in The Times newspaper published on 4 July 2009.
AJR Chairman, Andrew Kaufman, said: “Bernie Ecclestone’s comments clearly demonstrate his staggering ignorance about a mass murderer and probably the most evil man in history. As well as setting out to persecute, displace, rob and ultimately annihilate Jews and other minority groups, Adolf Hitler was the chief perpetrator of the Holocaust and instigator of the Second World War. He was not, as Mr Eccelstone suggests, blindly guided by others.
“Mr Eccelstone’s comments have no place in public discourse and only serve to glorify one of the most reprehensible figures in history and diminish the impact of the Holocaust.
“We call upon Mr Ecclestone to make an unreserved apology and a full retraction of his highly offensive remarks.”
