AJR Twins with Mitzvah Day

AJR Twins with Mitzvah Day

The AJR is delighted to be both a partner and a project for Mitzvah Day 2009, which this year takes place on Sunday 15 November.

The aim of Mitzvah Day is to help reduce hardship and poverty, to help the environment and to bring a little joy, all through volunteering. It is a way for all of us to make our mark regardless of our affiliation, religious conviction, wealth, age or nationality.

AJR is involved with Mitzvah Day in two ways. As a project partner, our nationwide regional groups will work with other organisations to arrange afternoon activities. These activities can be run from a community hall or even from a home.

AJR will also be supporting the work of the René Cassin, a human rights charity that uses historical Jewish experiences and positive Jewish values to campaign and educate on universal human rights. On Mitzvah Day, they want to address the hardship and poverty faced today by asylum seekers around the UK. This project will help bring a little joy where it is needed by supporting asylum seekers being held in Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs) around the country.

The AJR regional groups and the AJR Centre will be collecting Toiletries, including shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, mouthwash and body lotion etc. to support this project.
