AJR Celebration Tea

AJR Celebration Tea

The AJR celebrated its Annual Tea on Sunday 13 September 2009 at the Watford Hilton.

Three hundred guests enjoyed the beautiful arias and duets from our programme, New World Operetta, performed by Baritone Simon Butteriss and Soprano Deborah Crowe. They were accompanied on piano by Diana Franklin, a member of the AJR’s management committee.

In his welcome address, AJR Chairman, Andrew Kaufman said, "Today is the highlight of the AJR calendar, a chance for you to enjoy the wonderful entertainment and be amongst friends. It is also an opportunity to listen to the music so many of you grew up with and which continues to be a part of your lives."

He also acknowledged that, "While the social aspect of our work continues to thrive we are also experiencing greater demands of our social and welfare services team. More so than at any time in the AJR’s history we are providing much needed services to hundreds of our less fortunate or less able members. We know that the next few years will be critical in providing services to our members and we expect our new Head of Social Services, Sue Kurlander, and her dedicated nationwide team to be at their busiest during this time."

As well as paying tribute to the Directors and staff for the hard work throughout the year, Mr Kaufman said, "We also cannot ignore the fact that these extra demands place increased pressure on our resources. Like all charities we rely heavily on legacies and donations as well as the kindness and foresight of our members. It therefore goes without saying that we urge you not to forget the AJR. The generosity of our benefactors helps us provide a vital financial safety net for our members with the greatest needs and to help us continue to do our valuable work."
